2017 | Resolutions

The first week of 2017 has flown by and as things settle down from the hectic holiday season, I've had some time to relax and reflect on the past year and what I hope to bring to this year. I've compiled those thoughts into a list of Resolutions that I hope will help guide me until next year.

1) Stay organized. This one is probably the most important for me to do with all that I have going on this year. As I took on a new job at the end of last year, time seems to be slipping away from me and my time management skills have definitely been challenged. I want to be better about fitting in appointments, making time for friends, updating the blog and producing new content, training time at the studio, and so much more and being organized will help me along that path! I've stuck to writing in a planner/organizer because sometimes Google Calendar doesn't always cut it (thoug it is convenient when all my calendars sync up!).

2) Update/Revamp the blog. This one has been on the list for awhile and I'm hoping after my trip, I'll be able to really sit down and strategize out the direction I want my blog to go. I want to redo the whole design and layout and have been going back and forth between a few designs. I also need to start getting on that e-mail marketing and will get that going soon. And then there's the whole content calendar in general (briefly mentioned above), where I want to be more consistent with my blog and producing more content. I have a bunch of ideas in my mind of what I want to do and hopefully I can execute at least part of it!

3) Vlogging/shooting more videos in geneal. I've toyed around with vlogging a little bit last year but it was way harder than I thought it'd be and way more time consuimg (kudos to those who do it on the daily!). After I organize myself, I want to make time to shoot more videos. I'm hoping I can practice more on my upcoming trip to Asia!
4) Read more. I used to read all the time but lately, I found myself not diving into a book as often. I used to buy books and read them cover-to-cover within the span of a day or three (depending on the length) but now, not so much. I have books that I have bought but still haven't read yet and I want to take some time for myself to enjoy those wonderful stories again. This goes hand-in-hand with the staying organized/time management note and I'm hoping I can read more this year!

5) Train more for myself and the possibility of competing in another Pole Competition/Performance. I haven't competed or performed at all during 2016 and I'm hoping I get back either one or both this year. Last year I trained to get better as an instructor and to be able to have as many moves in my repertoire. This year, I want to be able to get into the studio more to develop a piece and tell a story but to also get my butt back into better shape. Which will tie into the next point.

6) Eat better. I eat relatively healthy on a daily basis and try not to eat out too often or drink sugary drinks, sodas, alcohol, etc. However, I could do better on this front, or learn to have better self-control and portion control. When it comes to sweets, I have the biggest sweet tooth, and I do receive food product a lot. That being said, I want to be able to enjoy those items because I truly love them, but more moderately. This will help with my overall health (skin condition gets worse when I consume too much sugar) and help me reach my pole fitness goals.

7) Make more time for friends and family. With work, teaching, and blogging, it seems like I don't have much time to visit friends and family and I want to do a better job at keeping in touch this year. Even if it is a quick 15 minute visit, I want to make a better effort at staying in touch with those dear to me. As we get older, it seems like time just slips away from us with 'adulting,' and the best we can do is to try to make time. If not that, even a simple phone conversation or e-mail life update.
8) Take time for myself and to disconnect from Social Media. Last on my list is really taking the time to take care of myself (eating right, getting enough sleep, exercising, etc.). This may include taking on less somewhere or slimming down my schedule ever so slightly. I think it's important that you take care of yourself in order to pursue and do the things you want to. I also want to be able to disconnect from the world of Social Media in little bits of time (I sometimes envy my friends that aren't so wrapped up in this world). Sure the world and many every day things involve the internet and emails and social media is part of my job, but sometimes it is nice to not have to think about it or be constantly on my phone/computer. My eyes would probably thank me for it too. There's a whole world to see out there and you can miss some amazing things when you're eyes are stuck to your phone.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope this has inspired some of you for what you want to bring into 2017. Best of lucky to everyone!
